Evolving Crisis Architecture across Growth Stages: A Case Study of the Technology-Based Venture Park Systems

This study examines recurring and structural crises in technology ventures through a structural framework termed “Crisis Architecture,” moving beyond single-event response analysis. Park Systems, a global leader in industrial Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), is analyzed as a single case, and its growth process is divided into four generational stages to identify the crises and response strategies observed in each phase. The analysis shows that the firm’s growth converges into two main phases—product development and market expansion—during which technological and managerial crises intersect and shape organizational dynamics. Through an iterative crisis–response–learning mechanism, the organization progressively strengthened its resilience, and experiences of overcoming crises become turning points that triggered simultaneous technological and managerial innovations. These findings address limitations of event-centered crisis management research and empirically demonstrate the importance of a virtuous cycle of crisis–response–learning–resilience in technology venture growth. The study also extends understanding of growth mechanisms in technology-innovation firms and offers practical implications for designing crisis management systems and policy support for venture companies.
