1950년대 전반기 ‘문화인’의 임무와 ‘문화 대한’이라는 상상 - 『문화세계』를 중심으로
초록
This study aims to reveal the ‘before and after’ discourse through Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye (Cultural World) from 1953 to 1954. Literature in the 1950s was interpreted with a binary lens, such as pure literature versus anti-communism or cosmopolitanism versus nationalism. Instead, it oscillated in various ways between these poles. The early 1950s, in particular, was a crucial period for seeking the identity of a new nation and culture. Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye (Cultural World) played a significant role in discussing the modernity of post-war Korean culture, striving to share modernity as a symbol of ‘anxiety’ and ‘resistance’, and aspiring to become a member of world history through the symbol of ‘cultural Korea’. The United States emerged as an important symbolic resource for imagining Korea’s new national identity in the 1950s, with cultural figures envisioning “globality” centered on France and the United States. However, the representation of the United States in Mun-Hwa-Se-Kye (Cultural World) was not an acceptance of the Cold War world, but rather a way to expose the fissures and anxieties of Korea in the post-war era.
