A Study on the Infographic Visual Translation of the Nuwa Myth from the Perspective of Cultural Memory and Visual Semiotics

초록

This study explores the modern visual translation of the Nuwa myth in infographic design based on cultural memory theory and visual semiotics. By examining classical texts such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas and Huainanzi, it identifies four core symbolic dimensions of Nuwa—creation, maternity, nature, and morality-and clarifies their formation as stable cultural memory through intergenerational transmission. Integrating the three-dimensional structure of text, image, ritual with the principles of structuring, symbolization, and narration in infographic design, this study constructs a three-layer mapping model of signifier, signified, visual representation. Through comparative analysis of three representative cases-digital illustration, cultural wall templates, and ink animation-the study demonstrates the advantages of infographic design in enhancing visual communication while preserving cultural symbolic depth. The proposed qualitative model offers methodological value for the visualization of myth narratives and the contemporary application of traditional cultural symbols.
