PET용기의 상부하중(Topload)강도 향상을 위한 디자인방안 연구

PET containers are useful for preserving food and beverage because of the light weight and effective protection against carbon gas and oxygen. Also, they can be designed in various forms and, therefore, are mass-produced and distributed in the overall food and beverage industry. Because of the need for mass-production, the container design is more focused on being suited to general purposes than being aesthetically outstanding in order to facilitate production and distribution. The purpose of this study was to find a way to improve top load strength and durability of external design elements in designing PET containers, and to predict problems that can be caused during mass-production and distribution of PET containers to improve the aesthetic quality and durability. In the study, by using a 2L water bottle, which is commonly used in everyday life, a durability test was conducted based on property measurement including overall shape, shoulder angle, shoulder length, and shape deviation, and top load test. And then, as interpretative research, interaction and correlation between the measured values were analyzed. As a result, the study proposed a design method for enhancing the top load strength, i.e. by reducing the shoulder angle, increasing the shoulder length, and decreasing the bending deviation, when the height increases, and then, by applying this method to a PET container design that showed problems related to the top load strength, proved that reduced shoulder angle and bending deviation and longer shoulder strength increases the top load strength.
