초록
This study addresses the lack of research on how digital album cover colors influence genre characteristics and audience psychology. As digital albums have become a major medium for music consumption, color functions as a key visual cue, yet its structural and psychological effects remain underexplored. Based on the CIE L*a*b* color space and color psychology, twenty Billboard-listed digital album covers representing Classical, Pop, Jazz, and Hip-hop were analyzed. Using Python-based automated scripts and K-Means clustering, dominant and auxiliary colors were quantified through L*a*b* values and ΔE. The results show that each genre displays distinct chromatic patterns-low-lightness orange-brown and violet in Classical, high-lightness warm hues in Pop, mediumto- low-lightness cool tones in Jazz, and high-contrast low-lightness backgrounds with bright accents in Hip-hop. An SOR-based survey with 153 participants (September 12–20, 2025) confirmed that these color features significantly affect psychological orientations and genre judgments, yielding a 36.93% classification accuracy. The findings demonstrate that digital album cover colors are structurally genre-specific and influence audience perception, offering theoretical and practical implications for visual design, branding, and color-based recommendation systems.
