A wideband end-fire millimeter-wave (mmWave) dissymmetric bowtie magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna is proposed to enhance radiation pattern uniformity and minimize both boresight and off-boresight gain variation. At 45 GHz, the symmetric bowtie ME dipole antenna exhibits a distorted radiation pattern and excessive gain in the boresight direction due to a strong E-field between the arms with a narrow radiation angle. To overcome these limitations, the proposed antenna decreases the bowtie arm angle, thereby reducing E-field concentration. Consequently, the dissymmetric bowtie enables broader traveling-wave propagation and suppresses excessive gain increases in the boresight direction. Moreover, the antenna gain can be controlled above 35 GHz by adjusting the bowtie angle, maintaining a wide bandwidth and low boresight gain variation in the low-frequency band. © 2002-2011 IEEE.
