A Case Study of Space Design for Fashion Brand Flagship Stores Using TBLD

초록

As interest in sustainable development and environmental protection increases, fashion brands are making sustainability a core part of their business strategy, and flagship stores are gaining attention as important platforms for realizing this goal. In particular, the concept of TBLD (Triple Bottom Line by Design) is a theory that harmoniously integrates environmental, economic, and social values to implement sustainable design, which can contribute to strengthening the brand’s eco-friendly image and enhancing consumer trust. This study aims to analyze fashion brand flagship store space design cases using TBLD materials, derive application methods and principles, and provide practical directions for realizing sustainable management strategies. The scope of the study examines the TBLD theory and analyzes the characteristics of TBLD materials (environmental, social, and economic sustainability) focusing on the value elements (environmental, social, and economic values) of TBLD. Additionally, using the ‘2024 Global 500 Brands’ ranking by Interbrand, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Chanel, Gucci, and Adidas were selected as case study brands. The research method involved establishing a theoretical foundation through domestic and international related literature and reports, and collecting materials and images of TBLD material application cases through internet and media sources to conduct case studies. The research results from analyzing space design cases of fashion brands (Louis Vuitton, Nike, Chanel, Gucci, Adidas) applying TBLD materials concluded the following. First, environmental sustainability was achieved by using smart glass, recycled materials, and FSC-certified wood, which increased resource circulation and energy efficiency. Second, social sustainability was strengthened through collaboration with local artisans and the integration of traditional culture, enhancing social responsibility and consumer trust. Third, economic sustainability was evaluated as high initial costs were offset by reduced operating costs through modular design and energy-saving technologies, while attracting eco-friendly consumers to realize economic benefits. Furthermore, strategic differences among brands showcased the diversity in space design and social value delivery methods. In conclusion, TBLD materials play an important role in sustainable development, and brands can achieve sustainability through the selection of TBLD materials, the use of natural light, the introduction of smart lighting systems, and modular design. These strategies will enhance the brand's economic efficiency and provide a direction for the sustainable development of the future fashion industry. This study expanded the application of TBLD theory to the space design of fashion brand flagship stores at a theoretical level, and at a practical level, provided specific methods and principles to realize sustainability. Future research should expand the scope of the study and incorporate quantitative analysis to explore in depth the impact of TBLD material application on consumer behavior and market performance, thereby strengthening the practical applicability and generalizability of the research.
