Laser-assisted recovery of on-chip phage viral DNA was demonstrated. Optomechanical energy conversion was utilized to shear off a part of a microchip and thereby form a micropellet. The micropellets carrying phage samples were directed to conventional laboratory circumstances for downstream analysis, addressing a ‘chip-to-world’ interface issue in lab-on-a-chip technology. Phage viral DNA content carried by the micropellets was validated through quantification and sequence verification. The developed microchip configuration and its localized sample retrieval would function as a high-throughput sample handling method compatible with microchip-based phage fluorescence immunoassay. © 2023, The Korean BioChip Society.
