초록

SnO being a narrow bandgap semiconductor in combination with a UV-active material like TiO2 results in a photocatalyst with improved solar spectrum harvesting capability. Yet, prior report of stable SnO synthesis seems challenging and widespread use of such a photocatalyst requires a facile method of production. A wet-chemical synthesis approach known as pseudo-successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (p-SILAR) process, being facile and cost-effective, was customized to develop visible light active TiO2-SnO photocatalysts. The successful nanocomposite synthesis was confirmed by SEM-EDS, XRF, XRD, and XPS analysis. Photocatalytic behavior of the nanocomposites was studied via degradation of Rhodamine-B (RhB)/Methylene Blue (MB) dyes under visible light in comparison with pristine TiO2 nanoparticles. The performance showed significant improvement ascribed to reduction in the recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and enhanced light absorption owing to narrow bandgap of SnO. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2026.
