대화체 담화에 나타난 제주 방언 강세구 성조 실현 양상

초록

The current study aims to describe the prosodic characteristics of accentual phrase (AP) in the Jeju dialect. We analyzed the AP patterns and lengths in spontaneous speech samples of 40 adult participants who are in their 20s to 60s. All of them were born and raised and now live on Jeju Island. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, most speakers selected the H tone as the initial tone in an AP beginning with a strong consonant (i.e., a tense, aspirated, or fricative consonant). Otherwise, the L tone was selected as the AP-initial tone. Second, unlike the Seoul dialect, the L tone was the most common AP-final tone of an IP-medial AP in Jeju Dialect. Third, significant differences were observed in the realization of each AP pattern across age groups. We found that the younger age groups were much more likely to show the HL pattern and the LHHL pattern, implying that the tone patterns are currently undergoing change in progress.
