초록
In response to the evolving U.S.-China conflict, Japan strengthened its diplomatic and economic alignment with the United States, adopting a more assertive stance on multilateral platforms, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). This alignment is viewed as a strategy to counter China's influence, particularly through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). However, although Japan initially took a cautious and oppositional approach toward China-led multilateral organizations, it gradually showed a more cooperative attitude, prioritizing collaboration over competition. Japan's association with China in the BRI, AIIB, and RCEP, reflects its strategic shift recognizing the benefits of economic cooperation. Such a shift suggests Japan's flexible approach to balance its economic interests with broader geopolitical considerations. As China and Japan deepened their cooperation through international economic and trade organizations, their economic interdependence increased. If political and historical tensions between the two countries are alleviated, there is potential for the establishment of "strategic reciprocity," where both countries can transcend the U.S.-China geopolitical divide.
