The Impact of School Bullying Victimization on Depression Among Multicultural Adolescents : A Longitudinal Mediation Effect of Psychological Resilience

초록

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the developmental trajectories of school bullying, depression, and psychological resilience among multicultural adolescents and to investigate the longitudinal mediation effect of psychological resilience in the relationship between school bullying and depression. Method:A total of 1,321 multicultural adolescents were assessed using validated scales for school bullying, depression, and psychological resilience across four waves of annual follow-up over a four-year period. Results:(1) School bullying showed a linear decline with age, while both depression and psychological resilience exhibited linear growth trends; (2) the rate of change in school bullying had a statistically significant direct effect on the trajectory of depression, indicating a complex underlying mechanism; (3) psychological resilience played a partial mediating role in the longitudinal relationship between school bullying and depression. Conclusion:These findings suggest that psychological resilience serves as a key protective factor, buffering the negative psychological impact of school bullying and contributing to the mental health of multicultural adolescents.
