An Evaluation of Self-Sufficiency in New Towns Based on Facility Effectiveness - Focused on Life-Oriented Infrastructure

초록

This study evaluates the self-sufficiency of South Korea’s large-scale new towns and proposes a comparative framework for its assessment. A comparative analysis of statistical and spatial evaluation methods yields several key findings. First, significant differences in self-sufficiency rankings emerged due to variations in facility locations and the distribution of potential users, highlighting the critical role of regional characteristics in evaluating urban self-sufficiency related to daily life. Second, compared to first-generation new towns, second-generation ones exhibited lower self-sufficiency in welfare, retail, culture, and healthcare services, but higher levels in education and sports. This study advances beyond statistical evaluations by incorporating facility location, scale, and user accessibility into the analysis. The proposed method reflects regional characteristics and provides a foundation for more granular, location-sensitive analyses of urban self-sufficiency.
