초록

In current study, the microstructural evolution and wear mechanisms of Ti–6Al–4 V and Ti–12Mo–1Fe alloys were comparatively investigated with wear distance ( e.g., 30–800 m) using a ball–on–rotary wear test under an applied load of 10 N, combined with electron/confocal microscope. Ti–6Al–4 V alloy had a fine−grained (α+β) dual−phase, whereas Ti–12Mo–1Fe alloy showed a coarse−grained single β phase after the same heat treatment at 800 °C. Ti–6Al–4 V alloy was predominantly governed by the abrasive wear ( e.g., grooves and delamination) throughout the entire sliding distance, accompanied by a delayed onset of localized adhesive transfer patches at the extended distance of 800 m. Contrastingly, for Ti–12Mo–1Fe alloy, both abrasive wear and localized adhesive transfer patches were observed during sliding throughout the entire range. Quantitatively, with further wear distance up to 800 m, the wear rate of Ti–6Al–4 V alloy increased to 24.93 × 10−7 mm2 N−1, whereas that of Ti–12Mo–1Fe alloy reduced to a much lower wear rate of 2.58 × 10−7 mm2 N−1. The superior wear resistance of Ti–12Mo–1Fe alloy originates from the shielding effect of a highly compacted, thin deformed layer by uniform deformation in the single β matrix, together with localized adhesive transfer patches during sliding.
