The development of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has been directed toward high-performance of non-noble electrocatalysts for sustainable future energy supply. Herein, we introduce a novel one-pot synthesis strategy to fabricate a carbon-doped porous Ni3S2 (Ni3S2-C) directly from Ni foam via a straightforward hydrothermal reaction. Highly porous grass-like structured Ni3S2-C electrocatalysts through one-pot synthesis display enhanced charge mobility, more active sites of Ni3+ and low Gibbs free energy on their surface which is required for high performance HER. As a result, the Ni3S2-C electrocatalyst exhibits excellent catalytic activity with onset potential of -14 mV, low overpotential of -70 mV at 10 mA/cm2, small Tafel slope of 76 mV/dec with remarkable long-term stability for 77 h and durable catalytic properties after 1000 cycles. This work highlights a cost-effective and scalable approach to develop highly efficient HER electrocatalysts, offering significant potential for future energy conversion systems.
