박경리의 '토지'에 나타난 숭고미
초록
Park Kyoung-Ni"s 『Toji』shows a state of the sublime beauty. What works as a foundation of the sublime in this novel is the writer"s ‘thought of life’. As the thought of life lies in characters" deep consciousness and unconsciousness, such as Mrs. Yoon, Seohee, Yongi, Gucheoni, Byeoldang Asi, and Wolson, it decides their attitude and behavior. As the life exists in the center of the writer"s thought about human and world, it resists and deconstruct anti-life, such as family ideology, blood and honor-oriented, conservatism without change and creation, individual-centered egoism, and nihilism filled with cold smile and disillusion about human. As the materials, ‘Toji’, and ‘the earth’ explain enough well, the narrative about a life expressed by the characters in the novel reaches a world of ‘shadow’. The world encompasses ‘light and darkness’, ‘laugh and tears’, ‘sigh, and hurrah’, ‘the heaven and the earth’, ‘this life and the other life’, ‘fantasy and actuality’, ‘subjectivity and objectivity’, and ‘the subject and the object’. It is not because the writer understands the world with dichotomous and dialectical logic, but she is beyond it. She thinks everything in oriental thinking system such as a paradoxical logic ‘Bul-yeon-gi-yeon’ in Donghak, and coexistence and incompatibility in Buddhism.
