초록
This study examines the national narrative constructed in the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, with particular attention to the coexistence of national identity and globalization. Drawing on Chatman’s (1978) narrative structure theory, the analysis focuses on the official commentary video released through authorized channels. Based on temporal progression and functional characteristics, the ceremony is divided into four narrative stages: beginning, development, transition, and conclusion. At each stage, events, characters, and scenes are analyzed at the story level, while commentary, music, and color are examined at the discourse level to reveal the overall narrative structure. The findings indicate that the opening ceremony integrates national cultural meanings into a global narrative framework through a carefully organized narrative arrangement. Emotional resonance is established through accessible symbolic elements in the beginning stage, followed by the elaboration of national cultural memory within Olympic values in the development stage. In the transition stage, national identity is rearticulated through ritualized procedures aligned with the global framework. Finally, the concluding stage presents a convergent narrative that unifies national imagery with a sense of global community, demonstrating how national imagery is effectively conveyed within a globalized ceremonial context.
