This thesis aims to study the concept of ‘the foreclosure’ from Jacques Lacan's theory and to pay attention to how this aspect is revealed in video culture. It aims to provide a better understanding of the topic by tracing the traces of ‘the foreclosure’. To discuss the aforementioned research objectives, this research paper is comprised of two main chapters. The first chapter defines comparative analysis of Sigmund Freud‘s ’Oedipus complex’ and Jacque Lacan’s “Desire”. In the second chapter analyze two male characters features of <Bird by the Window> based on these theories. The main method of this article is to analyze the books and periodicals about two theories. Additionally, literatures including precedent studies, other publications and critics would be taken as a second text. An interpretive conclusion was drawn by analyzing Igor Kovalov’s animation <Bird by the Window> based on theoretical research. As a result of the analysis of the work, when the theme penetrating <Bird by the Window> is interpreted based on the concept of ‘the foreclosure’ in Lacan's theory of ‘desire’, a multi-layered perspective is presented and reveals the meaning of ‘desire’. This Study shows how the male characters through ‘the foreclosure’ appeared at Igor Kovalyov‘s work, <Bird by the Window> weakens the subject. The theme that penetrates the work is a signifier that has been silent following the rejection of ‘Name of Father’, which indirectly warns us that we are trapped in a stuffed reality(the Symbolic) through human groups, and reveals the Real beyond the symbolic world.
