「케이팝 데몬 헌터스」의 ‘사회적 드라마’이론 분석 -굿의 의례성과 공연 서사를 중심으로-

초록

The purpose of this study is to examine how Victor Turner’s theory of Social Drama (Breach, Crisis, Redressive Action, and Reintegration) is ritualistically performed and visualized within the narrative and mise-en-scène of the Netflix original animation K-Pop Demon Hunters, with a specific focus on its performance scenes. To achieve this, the study established three research questions: first, the correspondence between the performance scenes and the Social Drama theory; second, the analysis of mise-en-scène visualizing the transitions between phases; and third, the derivation of markers regarding the protagonist Lumi’s identity transformation and reintegration. Methodologically, this study qualitatively compared and analyzed the ritual performativity of Gut (Korean shamanistic ritual) and the performance narrative based on mise-en-scène analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the performance sequences correspond precisely to the structure of Social Drama (Breach-Crisis-Redressive Action-Reintegration), with the “Crisis” phase specifically highlighting the ambivalence of negative communitas. Second, visual elements such as the red lighting and low-angle shots in the track “Take Down” visualize the crisis, whereas golden/blue auras and white costumes symbolize healing and the restoration of order. Third, Lumi is reborn by integrating her humanity and demonic nature, achieving a communal reintegration that reconstructs the social order alongside the fandom. These findings suggest that K-Pop Demon Hunters transforms the processes of social conflict resolution and identity acceptance into a ritualistic healing narrative through the format of K-Pop performances. Ultimately, this study proposes an integrated analytical framework combining Social Drama, Gut, and mise-en-scène, while suggesting future research possibilities regarding audience performativity and comparative studies with other genres.
