Pilot Study on the Design of an Integrated Arts Therapy–Based Community Dance Program

초록

Purpose: This study aimed to preliminarily implement a community dance education program based on an arts-integrated therapy perspective and qualitatively analyze the instructor’s observations, peer feedback, and participants’ responses in order to explore the program’s practical feasibility and educational effectiveness. Methods: The program was composed of five sessions, each designed and executed directly by the researcher. Data were collected through video recordings, field notes, meeting records, and participant satisfaction surveys. Result: Three core themes emerged from the analysis: recognition and externalization of emotions, recovery of bodily awareness, and formation of social empathy. These findings provide preliminary evidence for the therapeutic potential of community dance. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that community dance can function not merely as movement education or an artistic experience, but as a field of arts-based healing practice that promotes integrated recovery across physical, emotional, and social dimensions. Furthermore, the action research framework where the instructor directly designs and executes the program suggests a valid methodological approach for the future development of arts-integrated therapeutic education programs.
