초록

Grain-oriented electrical steel (GO), characterized by a sharp {110} <001> Goss texture, has been used extensively as the magnetic core in transformers. The demand for automotive transformers operating at higher frequencies necessitates thinner electrical steels to reduce eddy-current losses and improve efficiency. However, the thickness of commercially available GO with AlN inhibitors is limited to 0.23 mm owing to non-uniform recrystallization. Thus, the surface energy-induced grain-growth method was shown to be effective for fabricating thin GO sheets without AlN inhibitors. However, this method requires precise control of the processing parameters to achieve a Goss texture. In this study, we elucidate the role of sulfur in texture development and propose a simple modified method for mass production. © 2026 Elsevier B.V.
