The Relationship between Organizational Justice and University Staff's Sense of Community:The Moderating Role of Transformational Leadership

초록

This study examines the relationship between organizational justice as perceived by university staff and their sense of community, and tests the moderating role of department heads’ transformational leadership in this relationship. To this end, data from 4,234 staff members at four-year universities were drawn from the 2024 University Innovation Capacity Assessment (UICA) and analyzed using the PROCESS Macro Model 1. The results indicate that organizational justice is positively associated with sense of community, and that department heads’ transformational leadership is also significantly related to sense of community. In addition, transformational leadership was found to strengthen the positive relationship between organizational justice and sense of community. This study contributes to the literature by empirically examining the relationships among organizational justice, sense of community, and departmental leadership in the context of higher education institutions, and offers policy implications for university organization and human resource management.
