영화관람수요 추정을 통해 본 한국영화산업의 특성

We characterize the Korean movie industry by estimating movie-going demand. World movie industry data show that South Korea is world number one in the frequency of per-capita movie-going. There are both a bright side and a dark side of this fastest growing movie industry. The bright side is the Korean movie industry's success within a short time period thanks to large investments by major companies. The dark side of the Korean industry is that some big firms control the whole process of filmmaking, distribution and showing. Under this type of market structure, many high-quality but non-mainstream movies have little prospect making it to theaters.
