초록
The rapid increase in the number of North Korean defectors rapidly since the 2000s has facilitated active social discussions about them. Public broadcasting, general programming channels, and independent films have continuously presented North Korea-related contents, which are drawing huge attention from the public. Therefore, this study aims to understand the perceptions and motives of the audiences (North Korean defectors and the general public) and producers of North Korea-related contents. The analysis results confirmed that ‘relationship formation’ and ‘search for information’ were the motives for using the contents by North Korean defectors and the general public. However, panel trust showed somewhat mixed reactions. In particular, North Korean defectors' trust in the panel on political and military issues was significantly negative, and the producers also secured the trust in the panel through the surrounding 'reputation'. Regarding the production direction, both the audience and producers emphasized 'diversity'. These results mean that North Korea-related content needs to be more abundant and have technological changes as general programs, breaking away from the grounds of unification and nationality. Moreover, the results show the urgency of institutional arrangements to raise panel trust in the production process.
