초록
In this paper, the authors summarize their teaching experiences in economics education and propose ‘teaching economics through empirical research (TEER).’ The intention is to encourage students to utilize their economics knowledge. TEER has the following three characteristics. First, students have to select research topics. Second, empirical methods such as surveys or regressions of existing data needed to be used as research methods. Third, one of the team members for the project should be responsible for making the report well written and easily readable, especially focusing on the literature review which makes the empirical result meaningful. The authors propose the incentive mechanism as follows. First, in order to increase the objectivity of evaluation of the report, It is recommended to involve peer professors in the grading process. Second, students should be given 3 credits in the same way as general classes so that professors and students can apply the same level of effort on ‘TEER’ as general classes. Third, before formal registration students should form a research team to submit a very simple research proposal to professors and professor allow for registration through examining of the proposal.
