An Analysis on the Impact of Reform of Patent on Patent Application in Australia: Focus on the Spillover Effects of Foreign Countries

초록
Using patent and firm-level data of Australia and Foreign Countries for 1987-2006, this study investigates the impact of institutional reform of patent rights on the patent application. Panel system GMM estimation results are as follows. First, unlike other firm and industry-level studies of advanced countries, we find very significant positive impact of strengthening of IPRs on the innovative activities of domestic firms. Second, innovative activities of US and UK tend to give positive spillovers while those of Japan shows negative spillovers. However, these spillover effects are not statistically significant except for US.
