대학생들의 투표 참여 의도를 이끄는 요인에 대한 탐색적 연구: 정치 대화와 투표자 우대 제도, 내재적·외재적 정치 효능감을 중심으로

This study aims to examine factors that lead college students to participate in voting. A survey was conducted by use of questionnaires. The sample size was 259 students. College students identified lack of political conversations and of policy pledges for them as barriers and need for civil education and preferential voting as promoting factors for voting. Subsequently the study empirically tested the influence of these variables on both internal and external political efficacy on voting intention. It was established that political conversations variable has a significant influence on external political efficacy. External political efficacy variable was related to voting intention. Most respondents perceived that politicians neglect and improperly respond to people’s needs, the higher intention of their voting participation. Perceptions that preferential voting system help higher voting turnouts have a significant influence on internal political efficacy. A path from internal political efficacy to voting intention was statistically significant, meaning that the lower internal political efficacy respondents perceived, the lower respondents’ voting intention were expressed. The results suggest that both internal and external political efficacy are important variables in explaining college students’ voting intention. Efforts to encourage political conversations among college students may play an important role in increasing external efficacy and voting intention.
