초록

This study aims to empirically examine how audience evaluation, exposure frequency, and involvement regarding climate change news influence the perception of climate change (current and future awareness), and how such perceptions subsequently affect behavioral intention to respond. Using secondary data provided by the Korea Press Foundation, a structural equation model analysis was conducted. The results show that news evaluation had a positive effect on both current and future awareness, while involvement significantly influenced all perception variables. In contrast, exposure frequency was positively associated only with current awareness, but not with future awareness. This suggests that news coverage tends to focus on immediate threats, and that psychological distance may limit the effect of future-oriented information. Perceptions of climate change were also found to positively influence behavioral intentions, indicating that issue awareness can serve as a motivational driver for action. Theoretically, the study confirms the resonance effect of cultivation theory and supports the usefulness of temporal perception segmentation based on construal level theory. Practically, it highlights the need for high-quality reporting strategies, participatory content formats, and emotional framing of long-term threats.
