사할린 디아스포라 한인의 초국적 경험과 의미 분석

초록

This paper aims to illuminate the experiences of Sakhalin ethnic Koreans through oral life history and analyze them from a transnational perspective. Although there are existing literatures that focus on the history and experiences of Sakhalin ethnic Koreans, rarely are there attempts to go beyond the ‘Korean centered’ interpretation of their transnational experienc es. This paper seeks to make this rare a ttempt by illustrating diverse, post-nationalist (breaking away from the boundaries of the Korean nation), and multi-layered aspects of the transnational experiences of Sakhalin ethnic Koreans. While applying the methodology of oral life history to the study of Sakhalin ethnic Koreans, this paper briefly introduces an experimental methodology called collaborative oral life history. The oral life histories gathered through such a methodology are then analyzed with a framework of chronotope which is often used in diaspora studies. In doing so, this paper delves into the variety of migration routes of the Sakhalin ethnic Koreans and the issues that led to their nationality change. Based on these factors, their identity formation is examined through observing changes in their names, languages, and characteristics or stereotypes as an ethnic group. M oreover, with t he p urpose o f c onnec ting t he diasporic history with t he c olonial h istory o f Korea, t his paper trac es t heir d iasporic experiences of how they encountered new realities and cultures in their residing country while maintaining the old culture and customs from their homeland. Ultimately, this paper emphasizes the significance of transnational diaspora towards an imagined community, as the transnational experiences discussed above are treated as continuously unfolding ones with open possibilities.
